It's not quite what she expects, but the revelations quickly lead her down a path she never expected to take.

I have very mixed feelings about this book because I think the author had an agenda that I didn't like, but I'll come back to that after.

Hazel Jones is a very liberal professor with a secret: She fantasies about being bound, humiliated, and used by several men at once. This causes her tremendous anxiety because she's believes these behaviors as debasing to women and therefore unacceptable. But when Tiggy enters her life, she begins to think that she should relax and enjoy herself and throw aside society's conventions: If it feels good - Do it. As a liberated woman, after all, she can make her own decisions and if one of them is the be bound by a strong man during sex, that's her choice to make.

As the book progresses, Hazel explores more of her fantasies with Tiggy's male friends and the other men in her life. This causes her too vanilla boyfriend to leave her and a male opponent the opportunity to take advantage of her. The sex scenes are kinky and exciting.

Throughout the book there's a tremendous amount of lecturing on the topic of environmentalism that is distracting. Hazel is a vegetarian, walks and takes the bus because gas is bad, protests against fox hunts and animal breeding and numerous other ideas that mostly get in the way of the story. I don't think this added depth to the characters and certainly didn't make me think about the Earth. The author's Save the Earth agenda was boring.

But what's most distressing about the book is how Hazel is undone in the end. Her desire to explore her kinky side has tragic consequences for her professional causes, her friends and herself. The book concludes with her downfall because she wanted to explore her kinky side - It ignores the immorality and illegal behavior of everyone around her to make the accusation that being kinky is wrong. I don't appreciate this idea.

Just because one is kinky doesn't make one a bad person and deserving of bad karma.

I'm going to rate this book as good even though I am really disappointed how it ended. The sex scenes and fantasies are just too good to pass up. Read it, but borrow a copy or buy it used if you can.
