The Road to Depravity

When a Husband is Forced to Watch

by Ray Gordon

From back cover:

Adultery. Somehow the word thrilled me. I felt like a naughty little girl, bad, wicked. And, heightening my wickedness, my husband Alan was watching me. Was his heart breaking? Was he wallowing in self-pity? Revenge is sweet. Revenge is deliberate adultery. It must be hitting him hard. To watch his wife of ten years being crudely taken by another man... How does he feel? What are his thoughts? He'd played his mind games and lost. There could be no winner.

Alan has walked out on Helen again. But this time she won't take her husband back. Thirty years old, attractive, with no shortage of admirers pursuing her, Helen begins to enjoy her freedom. But Alan won't leave her in peace. When she discovers him spying on her while he has sex with a male friend, she's initially shocked. But soon acknowledges that his voyeurism and her exhibitionism is actually arousing.

Taking things further in order to shock and punish Alan, Helen begins to experiment and explore the extremes of her own fantasies. As she indulges in lesbian trysts, group sex, bondage and spanking, Helen also struggles to understand whether she wants to be rid of Alan or to continue enjoying his surveillance. And so together, they travel the unmapped road to depravation.

[ Poor Grammer Alert - How many times in the above description did they start a sentance with a conjuntion? It may be okay in moderation but four times in three paragraphs is too much. This should be a warning of the poor writing contained inside. ]

When I say in my website overview that I want to save you, the readers, from wasting your time and money on horrible books - I'm talking about The Road to Depravity. This is by far one of the most poorly written books I have ever had to suffer through. Every idea is repeated and analyzed to death. In each chapter, Helen has a single thought she has to repeat a dozen times - Does the author think we won't remember it? Does he think we can't read? Or was he just trying to fill pages? It was a horrible nightmare to read. For example, in chapter four Helen meets Mary and is considering the idea of her first Sapphic encounter. She repeats eight times, “I am not a lesbian.” The writing is so repetitive I thought maybe the printer had made a mistake: It seemed I kept reading the same pages again and again. In chapter eleven the author, describing Helen licking Angela's pussy, took out his thesaurus to come up with 13 different terms for vagina in three pages. Why? Did we need three pages to describe one woman licking another? It wasn't even hot!

Besides the horrible writing the plot was so far fetched and contrived I kept throwing the book down and screaming, “Come On!” Every single time Helen has a sexual encounter her husband Alan happens to be there to watch - Day or night. He is always stealing outside her window even though he moved out weeks ago! Everybody seems to notice who goes in and out of her house, and several people talked to him, but no one ever called the police on a peeping Tom? Is he living outside her window? Does she not grasp the concept of closing the curtains? Or maybe actually having sex in the bedroom instead of the living room?

The next contrived and preposterous idea is that every single person Helen encounters wants to screw her and sodomize her: Man or woman - Paul, Mary, Tom, Derek, Angela and the boys next door - What planet it that? Oh yeah and no thought of disease or birth control is ever mentioned.

Alan is psychologically abusing Helen and their marriage is a nightmare: There's no love, bad sex, and no communication. Periodically he walks out on her which makes her feel useless and inferior and she begs him to come back. Finally she gets tired of the abuse, calls his bluff and lets him leave. Desperate for money and attention she offers sex to her neighbors for money. It quickly gets out of control as neighbors Tom and Mary take advantage of her, sell her services and abuse her. Helen decides to get even by opening her own private sex service and steal Tom and Mary's clientele. Meanwhile Alan keeps showing up to witness Helen's sexual reawakening.

The premise of the book was pretty reasonable and the sex, if written better, would have been entertaining but Ray Gordon really screwed-up in the writing of this horror. The sex, even though there is a lot of it, isn't exciting or sensuous. It seemed totally mechanical despite the descriptions moans and orgasms. The bondage and whipping is non-consensual which is also not a good thing.

This is horrible book all around. As I said above, don't waste your time or money.
