The Submission Galleryby Lindsay Gordon |
From backcover: “If the girl in the sculpture were at your disposal, what would you do with her"” Poppy asked. Something changed in the man's expression. “That's something I can only show you,” he replied, and seized her hands.
As her heart beat faster and her pulse thundered against her temples, she felt herself being marched down the street until the mouth of the darkened alleyway presented itself. This is it, she thought, and then laughed. I'm about to give myself to another stranger. I've gone mad. Is this really happening?
For her art, Poppy seeks out and recreates acts of submission and domination. Each sculpture she creates is taken from life – a life of total sensual freedom where she meets a strange cast of extreme lovers. From strangers in restaurants to tattoo artists, from a baroness to a uniformed society of fetishists, Poppy experiences obedience and tastes power. The result is her submission gallery.
Where Poppy’s quest for inspiration will finally lead, and to whom, remains a mystery. But behind the scenes of her journey and the art it produces, the world’s most bizarre collector waits to seize the greatest artefact of all – the artist herself.

This started out as a very exciting story but got a little lost before an abrupt ending. It had some excellent scenes and good plot so I'll rate it very good but a little more editing and focus would have made it great.
Poppy starts out as an innocent girl being seduced and corrupted by a mysterious man. He sends her very sexy lingerie with the instructions to wear them and send them back to him soiled. The naughtiness of the clothing and situation inspirers her to create a magnificent and sensuous sculpture. The sculpture sells for an outrageous amount which allows her to begin to indulge her fantasies of kinky sex with strangers. As more sexy lingerie arrives and her experiences grow her sculptures get more elaborate and she make even more money. The spiral continues and the story get deliciously explicit.
I really liked the descriptions of her sculptures and the art gallery openings where they are presented. I can easily imagine the kinky people and fashion present and the cool parties that would result. The kinky sex that follows from both the patrons and Poppy make perfect sense and is well written - Very Hot stuff.
Unfortunately the story gets side-tracked by drama as Poppy is kidnapped and we learn the bizarre subplot of the lingerie supplier. It's over the top stuff that doesn't make sense and ruins what was a believable story.
Now confused in conflicting plots, the book ends abruptly with Poppy outsmarting everyone. Except for the ending, I really enjoyed the sex and artwork.
